Accommodation options in our region

SQRH provides fully furnished and equipped accommodation options in Charleville, Chinchilla, Goondiwindi, Kingaroy, Roma, St George and Toowoomba.

SQRH subsidised placement accommodation

SQRH provides subsidised accommodation support to nursing, midwifery and allied health students undertaking their placements across the Darling Downs and South West. The accommodation is fully furnished and equipped, providing a “home away from home” experience for students.

Locations

SQRH offers subsidised accommodation at the following locations:

  • Chinchilla
  • Kingaroy
  • Goondiwindi
  • Charleville
  • Roma
  • St George

Cost

Domestic students from The University of Queensland (UQ) and the University of Southern Queensland (USQ) undertaking a rural placement in Nursing, Midwifery or Allied Health, are provided with accommodation (where available) at no cost.

​Domestic students from Griffith University undertaking a rural placement in Nursing, Midwifery or Allied Health, are provided with accommodation (where available) at $50 per week.

All other students, including full fee paying students, Medicine and TAFE students are provided with accommodation (where available) at $75 per week.

How to Apply

All students that apply for accommodation through SQRH need to apply at least 6 weeks before placements commence, and accommodation is not guaranteed.

Darling Downs

If accommodation is required for Queensland Health placements, students are required to check with the placement team at their university to check if they have prearranged accommodation in the first instance.

If Queensland Health cannot provide accommodation, then students should apply through SQRH.

For any non-Queensland Health provider placements, students can apply straight to SQRH.

South West

If accommodation is required for any placements in Roma, St George or Charleville, students can apply for accommodation through SQRH.

For any Queensland Health placements that require accommodation (excluding Roma, St George and Charleville), students are required to check with the placement team at their university to see if they have prearranged accommodation in the first instance.

If Queensland Health cannot provide accommodation, then students should apply through SQRH.

For any non-Queensland Health provider placements, students can apply straight to SQRH.

Dalby & Warwick

If accommodation is required in Dalby or Warwick for Queensland Health placements, students are required to check with the placement team at their university to see if they have prearranged accommodation in the first instance.

If no Queensland Health accommodation is available and a placement is with any provider and is:

>8 weeks from UQ or USQ – apply for accommodation through SQRH. Please ensure you select “Other” location option and specify Dalby or Warwick in your application.

<8 weeks - apply for accommodation with RMEA.

Charleville

Charleville

SQRH provides students on clinical placement with the option to stay at one of two modern, Queenslander-style houses located within Charleville and close to health services.

  • House 1 is a four-bedroom home that has been fully refurbished and features open plan living, a covered outdoor area with a BBQ and a modern kitchen. All bedrooms are air-conditioned and furnished with a king single bed, a desk and built-in cupboards. One bedroom has an ensuite. All bed linen and bath towels are supplied.
  • House 2 is a four-bedroom house located within walking distance of the CBD and is air-conditioned. All bedrooms are furnished with a king single bed, a desk and built-in cupboards. All bed linen and bath towels are supplied.

Chinchilla

Chinchilla

SQRH provides students on clinical placement with the option to stay at a fully-furnished, modern four-bedroom house located approximately 2 kilometres from the hospital and town centre area.

The house features open plan living, a modern kitchen and all bedrooms are air-conditioned and furnished with a king single bed, a desk and built-in cupboards. All bed linen and bath towels are supplied.

Kingaroy

Kingaroy

SQRH provides students on clinical placement with the option to stay at one of two fully-furnished, modern houses located near to the town CBD and in close proximity to the Kingaroy hospital.

  • House 1 is an air-conditioned four-bedroom house located approximately 2.5 kilometres from the Kingaroy Hospital. The open-plan living area connects to the covered outdoor area. All bedrooms are furnished with a king single bed, a desk and built-in cupboards. One bedroom has an ensuite. All bed linen and bath towels are supplied. The large yard is perfect for backyard cricket.
  • House 2 is a fully air-conditioned three-bedroom house located less than a kilometre from the Kingaroy Hospital and approximately 2 kilometres from the town centre. The covered outdoor area has a barbecue and views to a well kept garden. All bedrooms have a king single, ceiling fans, desk and built-in wardrobes. All bed linen and bath towels are supplied.

Roma

Roma

SQRH provides students on clinical placement with the option to stay at one of two houses, both within close proximity to the Roma hospital:

  • House 1 is a contemporary three-bedroom home located directly across from the hospital. Open-plan living areas connect to the covered outdoor area, giving you the option of indoor or outdoor living, depending on the seasons. All bedrooms are furnished with a king single bed and built-in cupboards. One bedroom has an ensuite. All bed linen and bath towels are supplied.
  • House 2 is a modern four-bedroom home located within walking distance to the hospital and nearby shops. All bedrooms are furnished with a king single bed and built-in cupboards. All bed linen and bath towels are supplied.

Toowoomba

Toowoomba

SQRH provides students on clinical placement with the option to stay at Steele Rudd College, within the University of Southern Queensland campus.

Rooms are heated and equipped with a bed, desk and cupboard for simple convenience. Common rooms, laundry facilities and a fully equipped kitchen are close by.

Goondiwindi

Goondiwindi

SQRH provides students on clinical placement with the option to stay at fully furnished, modern units located on the Goondiwindi Hospital Grounds hosted by Rural Medical Education Australia.

The kitchen and dining room connect to the covered outdoor area. All bedrooms are furnished with a king single bed, desk, TV, air-conditioning, bar fridge, kettle and built-in cupboards. Every bedroom has an ensuite.

St George

St George

SQRH provides students on clinical placement with the option to stay at a fully-furnished, modern four-bedroom house located approximately 500 metres from the town centre area and close to the local hospital.

The house has a modern kitchen, all bedrooms are air-conditioned and furnished with a king single bed, a desk and built-in cupboards. All bed linen and bath towels are supplied. There is a large lock-up garage and a spacious barbecue area.
