What does the program involve?

  • Fun group exercise sessions involving strength, balance and aerobic exercises.
  • Group education sessions from allied health students covering a range of topics including:
    • keeping safe in the home and community,
    • eating for optimal strength,
    • how to exercise at home and
    • getting up after a fall.

  • Improved knowledge of diet, exercises and health topics

WHO IS THE PROGRAM FOR?

People aged over 50, those who are at risk of falling, have had a fall or want to improve their balance.

GP clearance may be required for some participants.

WHEN?

  • Duration: 8 weeks
  • Follow up sessions included
  • Next program commences July 2023

  • Community Wellbeing Centre, 106-110 Alfred St, St George

PARTICIPANT ELIGIBILITY

Participants should have one or more of the following:

  • Over 50 years old
  • A recent (<12mths fall)
  • Fear of falling
  • Desire to improve balance

Exclusion criteria

  • Resident of an aged care facility
  • Significant cognitive impairment
  • Unable to independently mobilise (ie requires stand-by assist to exercise)
  • Has a progressive neurological condition (eg Parkinson’s disease, MS)
  • Any other condition that may require 1:1 supervision during exercise
