Kris's Story

Date: September 2025
Location: Roma and St George
University: Queensland University of Technology
Field of Study: Nurse Practitioner

What did you enjoy most about your rural placement?

Seeing a different side of nursing, lots of clinical experience, meeting friendly locals, and the beautiful scenery.

Would you recommend a rural placement to other students? Why?

Yes definitely. It is so different to nursing in the city. You need to use all your skills of resourcefullness, be flexible in your approach and consider access and availability when providing appropriate patient centred care.

What are your top tips for students considering a rural placement?

Do it. Have an open mind. Get out in the town. Visit the local shops and heritage centres.

Did you stay in SQRH accommodation or have interaction with SQRH staff?

Yes, the accommodation in St George was fantastic. Comfortable and well appointed. Check in was easy.
