Located at Baillie Henderson Hospital campus within the Health and Wellness Centre, the clinic is focused on individuals with low to rising risk factors for chronic disease who do not otherwise have funded access to nursing and allied health services in the community.
Clinic Co-ordinator Sam Peek said referred patients participate in the program, which is up to four months duration, and receive one-on-one treatment plus health education sessions, hydrotherapy, cooking demonstrations and group programs.
“These first few months have been really successful and show that a student-led clinic ticks so many boxes around achieving learning goals, working in an interprofessional environment and providing valuable services to community.
“We have students in physiotherapy, exercise physiology, dietetics, nursing, psychology and social work all helping participants to create sustainable healthy lifestyle habits and it’s also great to see the positive engagement between students and participants,” he said.
Any health providers interested in referring to the Health and Wellness Clinic can contact Co-ordinator Sam Peek on (07) 4699 8691 or email: hawcadmin@uq.edu.au
