My Midwives was established in Toowoomba in 2010 and is committed to complete care for women and their families in a unique environment.
My Midwives Managing Director Liz Wilkes said she valued student placements and felt strongly that all health organisations should help grow the rural health workforce, particularly maternity services.
Liz said UQ Midwifery student Saskia Hicks was a wonderful addition to the team in her 10 week placement, so much so Saskia has been offered a graduate position with My Midwives.
Working with SQRH Clinical Educator (Midwifery) Helen Goodwin and My Midwives midwife Jessica Thomas, Saskia said she thoroughly enjoyed her placement, gained invaluable learning and experienced the unpredictable nature of being a midwife. A photo opportunity for SQRH had to be re-scheduled as one of the My Midwives clients went into labour!
Saskia particularly emphasised the great satisfaction in seeing the continuity of care at My Midwives, having worked with Jessica on bookings, care plans, births and post-natal care.
Growing up in Brisbane, Saskia has not had a great deal of experience with rural Southern Queensland but she thoroughly enjoyed her stay and is very excited to take up her graduate position.
